established 2017
On August 25, 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall on the middle Texas coast as a Category 4 storm. Five of the 12 counties we serve were affected by this storm.
The Disaster Response Services Department of Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi offers disaster response programs for victims of Hurricane Harvey.
Moving forward, the Disaster Response Services Department is working towards meeting the needs of the 12 counties we serve through preparation, relief and recovery in response to future disasters. We do this by working with other community organizations in the region. We are here to Provide Help and Create Hope.
Disaster Relief
Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi performs as second-line responders by coordinating with first-line responders such as the Salvation Army, American Red Cross and Emergency Management. Relief efforts focus on individuals’ emergency needs in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
Disaster Recovery
We provide Disaster Recovery Case Management to assist individuals affected by a disaster in developing and implementing a Disaster Recovery Plan and with accessing resources in the community. We provide response coordination and short-term and long-term recovery services to individuals and families dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters like hurricanes, floods and other catastrophes.
Disaster Preparation
Catholic Charities of Corpus Christi works collaboratively with other community organizations, partners and government entities year-round to respond in a coordinated effort in the event of a disaster. In addition, these organizations work collectively to provide information and resources to the community in order to assist with disaster preparation and mitigation efforts.
Disaster Training
We provide on-going education and training opportunities for staff, volunteers and our community residents for the 12 counties we serve. Disaster preparation training and materials will be available for those who would like to work or volunteer with the Disaster Response Services Department. Educational training will also be provided periodically to our community residents through various outreach efforts and disaster response grab-n-go kits.
